Self-Assessment: When It’s You And Not Me

It’s not me it’s you.

1 Peter says, Be self-controlled and alert. The enemy prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

Some people’s dense mood infects others. If they’re not smiling or happy they don’t want anyone else expressing contentment. Some people feed off others’ energies as food. And some people JUST like negative energy. We push forward. Bring your problem to the table not your mood. Sometimes we end up meeting about people’s moods and don’t even know it, whether it’s the facilitator’s or an attendee.

As leaders, the clock is important, and so is what we meet about, but more importantly, our mood and tone sets the pace of the meeting.

Even the best facilitators have bad days. We should check ourselves before conducting a meeting:
How am I feeling?
Am I wearing appropriate clothing?
What am I projecting?
Does this need to be said?
Is this a good time to meet?
Can I reschedule it?

No, we can’t always sway people all the time, but usually the majority of attendees will be on the same page as the facilitator and the audience. They small-talk or prepare themselves and set each other’s tones sometimes, in agreement that everyone has a common goal for a certain amount of time.

However, if you have that ONE who always brings in a negative “can’t be bothered with this” tone, you gotta check them privately.

“Hey listen, for the last three meetings I noticed your mood has been objective. What’s going on? Do you want to talk?” Whether they take up your invite or not, their mood will be noticeably changed at the next meeting.

Sometimes people just want to be seen. Some people need to be checked too though. You’ve gotta check them and let them know they are seen. If we don’t check them, they find more and more comfort in feeding off you and your audience.

The enemy may or may not want to take your place, that doesn’t matter. What matters is they don’t want you where you are. The enemy studies you and look for ways to agitate you and bring you to their level. They use other people too. That’s how the devil works in us if we allow low ways to guide our thinking and being. Devils seek to destroy nothing else.

1 Peter says, Be self-controlled and alert. The enemy prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

2 Timothy says God did not give us the spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power of love and of self-discipline.

And if you’re following the way of your most high God, and carrying self-awareness and care about other people, then you can silently say, it’s not me it’s you. And say a lil prayer for them while covering your well-being. A Psalms perhaps…

Whether I write or speak I intend well to have a positive impact and good influence when it left my energy. That being said, if you resonate make changes, if you can't resonate, make changes still.

I have many different interests as this world is huge and there are so many places and things to explore. Such an advantage of foster care....so many differences and similarities wrapped in the word FAMILY.

I am a Bachelorette of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and an Associate of Science in Human Services. I possess 20 years as a Human Service Professional and bring training and experience in coaching self-development. I provide empowerment to persons in need of spiritual redirection and can make mental health referrals. I am an Ordained Minister, Certified Life concentrating in Spiritual Re-direction, and a Mental Health First Aid Responder.

I currently work as a human services supervisor with my team who serves close to 400 persons in underserved communities under an inclusive care management organization. Our clientele response is very satisfied and we are able to connect people to medical, mental health, and substance recovery programs, housing, and other entitlements. We provided services during the Covid Pandemic, earning us the Team of the Year Award in 2020.

Even though I was raised through the NYC foster care system and exposed to several religions, I was born into a family of spirituals, pentecostal/non-denominational pastoral leaders, and builders of two church houses, in Laurens South Carolina, and in Chicago Heights. We believe all humans no matter pit or wing, have a universal right to experience their inner soul's actualization right here on Earth.

I specialize in providing comprehensive guidance that will help you achieve new outlooks on your personal and professional life, to be able to achieve the growth you're striving for. My (pending copyright approval) method provides increased productive actions, and weekly accountability to bring clarity and inspiration to the challenges and strengths of your waking self.
